whats the big idea?

when i was young i longed to fly
and in my mind i took flight every day
i would jump in the water and feel it's weightlessness
and soar over the ocean floor.
i would run with all my might and glide across
the ice with greatest velocity
these were my happiest and care-free moments.
i could fly and no one could convince me otherwise

but, as i grew older, and the world weighed in
i found that while i i played this movie in my imagination,
others were flying for real

laying back on the ice, i would gaze overhead as the seagulls
danced and bobbed in the air
my envy of them grew as they performed
this beautiful air ballet

I felt as though i needed to stand and
call out for more
as they flew away unaware
that their daily routine was
killing off a part of me

into the empty sky i would stare as my eyes
drew doodles in its vast emptiness

why is it that this world is so unfair?
am i unworthy for such grandure?
only bestowed on this earth for ceaseless peregrination?
i am not a worthless no-body

...i'm a penguin

i will do something with my life

so i watched the robin pull spring in by the worm
and the eagle hold steadfast to freedom
i learned how the pigeons networked a postal system
and was inspired by the stork who
inked an endorsement deal with Vlasic

so, i started, arctic penguin ice deliveries.
1-800-949-4ice.

i began this business with myself and a few other penguins.
the three of us would cube, bag and i would deliver each bag by myself.
since then, we've employed a staff of 59 penguins,
12 seagulls in the marketing department,
and two pelicans to work the front desk.

(by the way, we're looking for someone to re-design our web site)

now that i am much older,
i've learned what the big idea is.
it's that in my small way,
i'm flying
