even years ago, the competition gently ensued. one sang while the other played guitar. the songs they wrote together lay on the bottom of a pile of cover songs when the band had a chance to play a party. the clash should i stay or should i go, van halen jump, asia, reo speed wagon. the summer nights hissed with microphones and poor p.a. systems while under-agers huddled drinking coors light; basking in the glow of a near perfect guitar solo. still, it was the songs never performed that ignited dreams and wrote hopeful futures. although within their meter lay a finite tension between resistance and union. the volume climbed and the police arrived.
