Plants take in our oxygen, while we breathe the nitrogen expelled from plants. So, I figured, If I had a large bucket and a plant, I should be able to stay under water for a pretty long time.

I would spend a good part of the Georgia summer sitting at the bottom of our pool with an inverted bucket of air over my head. It was pretty wild hanging out down there. The sun filtered an aqua glow while reflections of ripples danced around in crazy rhythmic patterns. The plastic smell from the bucket was strong with a chlorine ting from the water. I would listen closely at the faint hints of sound from the world above the surface while currents made swishing and bubbling reverberations.

No one knows but me.

As the air got more thin, the sound of my breath crescendoed. With the release of my grasp the bucket bulleted skyward.

I would rise to the top feeling light from my excursion.
